It saddens my heart to know that on Tuesday July 5th, 2016 another black
man's life was taken by police officers. Michael Brown, Eric Gardner, Tamir
Rice and now we can add Alton Sterling. He was a father of 7, a loving husband
and a great friend to many. It is important to send love to the ones hurting
but some of the nasty comments about him are despicable. This nation needs to
realize that everything is not black and white. It is important that we all
come together as a nation to end police brutality. We need to discuss these
hard topics in order to better our nations. I (a white woman) am tired of
watching the news to know another black man was killed by the police. A police
officer's job is to serve and protect. I do not think this is the America our ancestors
envisioned for us. African-Americans need to become knowledgeable about laws
and know their rights. Whites need to learn compassion. The government needs to
address the true issue. Slavery. White Supremacy. Racism. You would think
we have come so far from slavery to be still experiencing signs of racism,
police brutality and white supremacy. We can not allow future generations to
experience this. It is important that we bring an end to these contributing
factors. It will be hard; it will be long but it would be worth it. To actually
have equality among all races should be the end goal. America needs love.
Unconditional love. The love you have for your children. We need to learn how
to love one another regardless of race or socioeconomic background. We need to
love one another. When will America realize a change has to be made? We need to
come together in this time of grievance for the African-American community. We
need to hug them. We need to love them. We need to embrace them. We need them.
